Alanis Morissette Talks about Depression and the Sex and the City Movie

Alanis Morissette is a pop icon, no matter how many records she sells, she has her place in history. The singer/songwriter opens up on her split with Ryan Reynolds and falling into the depths of depression.

Alanis Morissette says she's naturally optimistic – but battled hard times over the last few years when she hit "rock bottom." 

"I took a break over the past two and half years. I was tending to my personal life," says the singer, who called off her engagement to longtime boyfriend Ryan Reynolds in 2007.

During that time, she says she hit "rock bottom" due to "a personal unraveling of significant relationships in my life." (Morissette did not comment about Reynolds's recent engagement to Scarlett Johansson.)

But the singer, 33, worked through the low period by writing songs for her upcoming album, Flavors of Entanglement, due June 10, and discovering more outlets for her emotions. She says that "everything from pounding pillows to sharing with intimate friends," helped her through the hard time. "The record chronicles the rock bottom finally being hit."

Still, she's hopeful about true love she says. "Oh yeah. My nature is always hope filled. It's more about values matching now. That's the foundation." Though she admits she is, "dating someone," she says she'd rather not reveal who it is – yet.

What the singer will reveal is that she's planning to tour North America this fall – but first she wants to catch one of the summer's most anticipated movies: Sex and the City. "I will definitely be going to see that movie," enthused Morissette, who once had a guest role on the HBO series. "I'm the girl that would torture a few of my guy friends and bring them."

Just weeks after “Grey’s Anatomy” returned with new episodes, sources are saying Katherine Heigl is itching to hang up her scrubs. “She's working really long hours and is ready to move on,” a source close to the actress told Us Weekly.

Fifteen months ago, Heigl renegotiated her “Grey’s” contract. The net result from that: Because the negotiations went public and she got the raise she wanted from the show, Heigl proved she wasn't about to become an of-the-moment primetime star. Additionally, Heigl has had tremendous big-screen success with her leading roles in “Knocked Up” and “27 Dresses.”

“She’s a smart one. She saw what can happen with someone like Jennifer Aniston, who was crazy successful on TV, but can’t seem to carry a film, and she tested the waters early,” said a movie industry source.

Even so, Heigl might be locked into “Grey’s” a bit longer. "I don't think she'll be able to get out of it,” the US source said of Heigl’s contract.

The actress will also appear in multiple episodes of the ABC hit. Lohan is also set to star in the forthcoming film Manson Girls as one of the murderer's cult followers.

Eight Belles Dies,Eight Belles Euthanized, Was it Justified

Horse racing is a brutal, cruel world that thrives on profit. When Eight Belles broke both of her ankles, little thought was put into the decision to put her to death. Immediately.

Filly Eight Belles finished second behind favorite Big Brown in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, then collapsed with two broken front ankles and was euthanized after crossing the wire.

The field of 20 horses was galloping out around the first turn at Churchill Downs when Eight Belles suddenly went down on both front legs and jockey Gabriel Saez slid off.
An equine ambulance reached her on the track and put Eight Belles down.

"There was no possible way to save her," on-call veterinarian Dr. Larry Bramlage said. "She broke both front ankles. That's a bad injury."
